Turquant, located not far from Saumur, is positioned in the heart of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional natural park and combines tradition and heritage. The village is distinguished by its troglodytes, remarkably well preserved. It seemed to consolidate them by economic and cultural development.
Rendez-vous in Turquant
In the context of protecting and enhancing this exceptional heritage, a unique project of creating a "craft" village came into being and has enabled the municipality to integrate its tourism development in the Saumur area through the image of artistic crafts. Through this project, the town shows its commitment to supporting the establishment of professional artistic crafts men and women (stone, metal, earth, glass, fire). The troglodyte site has thus become an area of developing of local skills.
This now protected space has welcomed thousands of visitors every year since 2009 and has an eclectic cultural season.
The village of Turquant, awarded in 2009 at the EDEN competition on "Tourism and Protected Areas", is worth a detour to discover a unique and singular place, which has become a European tourist Destination of ExcelleNce in France.
