Located along the North Sea at the front of the Flanders seabord, Dunkirk to the west, the Belgium frontier and its neighbour De Panne to the east, the Dunes de Flandre resort consists of Dunkirk and its beach of Malo-les-Bains (listed tourism resort), Leffrinckoucke, Zuydcoote, Bray-Dunes and Téteghem.
Rendez-vous in Dunkirk, Dunes de Flandre
The sandy beach runs continuously over 15 km. Exposed at low tide, the foreshore is wide and dotted with dunes (over 100 hectares of which 700 belong to the Conservatoire du Littoral), sometimes bordered by a promenade seawall: an invitation to family walks, hiking and other outdoor sports.
Dotting the coast, many ruins offer a historical discovery: wrecks, blockhouses of the 2nd World War, Military Fort of Leffrinckoucke, Battery of Zuydcoote...
The lake, with its characteristic of uncovered sand banks (environment of life for some marine mammals) is also ideal for practicing water sports including kite surfing for which it became a recognized spot.
The Dunes of Flanders, located in the heart of an exceptional natural site, have received awards in the EDEN contest 2010 on the theme: Tourism and Aquatic Areas. It is urgent to come and discover this beautiful region of France, perhaps still too little known but which is going to become better known by being a part of the outstanding European tourist Destinations of ExcelleNce in France.
